 Interregional Youth Seminar "Finno-Ugric Youth in the Changing World" in Petrozavodsk

LIENIP NewsIn June 2008 in Khanty-Mansiysk there will be an important event for Finno-Ugric Movement – V World Congress of Finno-Ugric Peoples. The main subject of the Congress is "We and the Changing World". Preparation for the Congress has led to increasing activity of Youth Association of Finno-Ugric Peoples. Thereupon, a considerable number of delegates will be of young people.
Interregional youth seminar is to work out a single view of Finno-Ugric youth of the Congress mainstreams: "Ethnopolitics and Law", 'Culture, Language and Education", "Mass Media", "Health, Demography and Family'. During the seminar representatives of Finno-Ugric youth organizations will share experience in implementation of public projects and programs. The seminar will cover a wide range of questions, including intensification of collaboration of Finno-Ugric public organizations, expansion of partnership with Finnish, Estonian and Hungarian non-governmental organizations.
Meetings with young Finno-Ugric people of Karelia Republic, Finno-Ugric public associations and authorities will take place in the framework of the seminar. Enlarged meeting of Youth Association of Finno-Ugric Peoples Administration will consider urgent issues of interregional interaction and will become the central part of the seminar.
The seminar is organized by Coordination Centre of Youth Association of Finno-Ugric Peoples, Karelia youth public organization "Trias" and republic youth public organization "Nuori Karjala" ("Young Karelia"). The seminar will be held under the aegis of National Policy and Church Department of Karelia Republic and Republic Centre of National Cultures.
Participants of joint Finnish-Russian project of training of Finno-Ugric non-governmental organizations will also take part in the seminar. The project has been financed by Foreign Office of Finland for three years and is aimed to expanse opportunities for activity of Finno-Ugric organizations, to raise their public significance and to consolidate interregional and international contacts, to train project activity and fund-raising. The most active Finno-Ugric young people from public organizations of the Russian Federation will come to Petrozavodsk for training course.
The seminar program includes lectures of experts, presentation of local Finno-Ugric projects, and visitation of information and education centres in Petrozavodsk. On March 29 there will be the evening of modern Finno-Ugric culture "FU", opened for all comers.
