Льыоравэтльан - Seminar “Development of Informational and Legal Education of Karelian Republic’s Population in the Field of Human Rights and National Minorities Right

On 27 March 2009 interns of Youth Information and Legal Center of Indigenous Peoples “Nevond” took part in a seminar “Development of Informational and Legal Education of Karelian Republic’s Population in the Field of Human Rights and National Minorities Rights”. National Policy and Religious Organizations Ministry of Karelian Republic together with Karelian regional public organization “Commonwealth of Karelian Nations” organized the seminar aiming to develop the system of informational and legal education of Karelian Republic’s population in the field of human rights and rights of national minorities.

Svetlana Varlamova, member of Human Rights and Development of Civil Society Institutions Council under the head of Karelian Republic; Eugenia Shustova, president of Karelian regional public organization “Youth Information and Legal Center of Indigenous Peoples “Nevond”; Zinaida Strogalshchikova, president of Karelian regional public organization “Association of Veps Culture”, candidate of historical science; Viktor Bogdanov, president of Karelian regional public organization “Commonwealth of Karelian Nations”, candidate of historical science addressed the participants.
Civil rights and freedoms: correlation of international and Russian formulations of legislation; federal legislation and international human rights, standards of rights of indigenous peoples and national minorities; right of local governments to rule the exercise of local national and cultural autonomies’ rights on the territory of municipal area were among discussion questions.
